Its just an observation, but why do questions on post war bikes always seem to get answers and yet questions even simple ones on prewar bikes dont get any responce at all,it makes me wonder what peaple have got against prewar bikes .

Hi Every one its me again, still no luck I thought it was only the Scott club members who horded bikes and parts away in case they might need them in twenty years time, it looks as if the Douglas club is the same. If no one wants to sell me even a baskett case, has any one got just a engine they dont need.Iwill build my own frame and forks to go with it. Hope I get a reply this time as I shall soon be to old to bother, Im nearly 74 now.

What you have to take into consideration is the fact that although there are about the same number of prewar machines as postwar, the postwar machines are divided into 2 basic types (Mark and Dragonfly) - so there is a larger pool of knowledge regarding these machines. Also, you seem to have recently decided you would like to be the proud owner of a Comet - this being one of the less popular prewar machines (there are only 6 or 7 known to exist), the pool of knowledge for this machine, along with availability of spares, is correspondingly small, and venting your frustration on this forum will not make matters any better. Also, a fair percentage of the 'Old Guard' are not at ease with computing, so probably haven't seen your requests - there is still no substitute for getting to 'Club meetings' and contacting others face to face.

Hi Eddie the only reason I have gone comet, and that is only 3/4 of a engine was because I have been unable to get any other prewar Douglas.it was the only reply I had to my adds in variouse papers,the new conrod and on this foum..

The other point is the nearest meeting is nearly a 100 mile away either way down in cornwall or all the way up to bristol.

I appreciate what you are saying - I have also been down that road! I have been involved with the Douglas Club for many years - incurring quite a lot of time, effort and expense. When I got interested in sprinting, I was offered a ride on a '28 OHV Douglas - and I was bitten!! I had to have one of my own, but the search was fruitless - until a fellow Club member tracked one down for me. Since then, help has come from various directions with regards to spares, etc. (but usually by direct contact at LDMCC section meetings, as members realised that I was taking this sport seriously). I doubt this help would have been forthcoming had I not been active within the Club. With regard to travelling - most months, I do a 110 mile round trip to Surrey/Hants meetings and on average manage the 170 mile round trip to Bristol meetings every other month. It's one of those things you have to do if you want to reap the full rewards of owning/riding one of the more obscure makes of British motorcycle.
Hopefully, you will find the parts you require to complete your engine (or even machine) and we will meet up some time at a section meeting.
