hello all
im new on here and have just purchased a douglas stationary engine.
theres not alot to it just a block and head thats it i will post some pictures up at a later date
it is qquite heavy. big bulky exhaust
not alot more i can tell you
any help much appreciated

From Jeff Clew's book "The Best Twin", the following summary:
The single cylinder stationary engines were introduced after the war in 450, 540, 630, and 770cc configurations, all with a 4" stroke and many interchangeable parts. Available as direct drive or with a with a geared reduction. They were used by Broom and Wade, Kango Hammers, Trusty Tractors, and Atco. Fairly heavy in weight, but with a long working life. The 770cc was dropped in 1952, as well as the reduction drive option. About this time too the crankshaft was standardized at 2" diameter on all the remaining models. Production of all stationary engines ceased in 1957 when Westinghouse took over the factory.

Hi Lewis,
With regards to a use and value for the Douglas stationary engine I was lucky enough to buy an engine on ebay, item number 130307025240, which is attached to a saw bench. Photos are attached to the listing and I managed to get it for £51.
I wouldnt class the price I paid as a valuation, just a price I was willing to bid for the item. As I havnt seen the engine yet I dont now if it is a bargain or not!
