Hi, Paul from www.RacingNorton.co.uk here again.
I have been working on my own Douglas 2 3/4hp project again and am currently working on the tanktop parts. I had been looking at the gearknobs used on two speed gearchange lever models - fitted to both the 2 3/4hp and larger 4hp models I believe. I already had a modern replica pattern of correct profile but wanted something genuinely period - i.e. wood. I notice pictures of original items had a dark wood finish, but I also fancied something in a lighter shade so have made versions in both Wenge (dark) and Yew (light) hardwoods.
As well as making for myself I decided to make the jigs and write CNC programs to manufacture these in batch's, as well as the original profile gearknob bolt CNC machined in stainless steel. Finally, I have just finished making the distinctive barrel headed screws that hold the tank top 2 speed bronze High/Low casting.
For all of these I have used originals for the profiles and threads and if I say so myself - don't look too bad.
I have added all of these items to the Douglas section of our www.RacingNorton.co.uk catalog: https://racingnorton.co.uk/epages/4c675e64-813f-4c0a-8926-87a680c962a0.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/4c675e64-813f-4c0a-8926-87a680c962a0/Categories/Items/8_Douglas_2_34hp_Parts (https://racingnorton.co.uk/epages/4c675e64-813f-4c0a-8926-87a680c962a0.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/4c675e64-813f-4c0a-8926-87a680c962a0/Categories/Items/8_Douglas_2_34hp_Parts)
As always - to purchase, just go to the item and select, place order and my daughter Steph (who does the Norton parts mail order business full time) will email you when order picked with final postage/payment details.
Other Parts I will be listing shortly:
- Black etched stainless spoke set for beaded edge rims (measured for early Douglas hubs)
- Cylinder head inlet/exhaust nuts - CNC machined in stainless steel, just writing programs for these at the moment.
And finally - you will see them in the listings anyway, but below are a few photographs of the tanktop parts:
Lovely job Paul
Thanks Graeme, nice of you to say.
Back chomping out SOHC Manx Norton engine bolts on the CNC machine now - but planning to make 2 3/4hp barrel retaining nuts and inlet/exhaust valve caps in stainless steel next . . . email us on normal sales@racingnorton.co.uk email if anyone interested.
Also, planning to do another article soon, covering my own restoration progress - as well as other parts accumulated for a second bike (and still looking for that elusive 1913 OHV engine if anyone has any parts!)
best wishes
Paul

Not sure if they are the same, but part way through a run of five hundred 5/16-25 nuts used on the DT cylinder head and lower crankcase bolts in heat treated 17-4PH stainless steel. These have a smaller than normal hex size, and with a part number of z385 something clearly carried over from the 2-3/4hp days. Not sure if they are the same as the 2-3/4hp barrel nuts.

These look great - just placed an order !
