Title: Douglas EW
Post by: patrickhowell on 23 Jul 2015 at 10:31
I spoke to a chap on the Banbury Run who had fitted an Amal carb in lieu of the drip-prone Brown & Barlow. I believe his bike was circa 1926. If anyone has the exact model of Amal, I'd appreciate it.

Hi Patrick,
I think that may have been me.
It is an AMAL 274.
When I get home I will put up all the details.

Hi Patrick,
I fitted an Amal as per the following link;

Go to reply #21.

You may need to make a thin sleeve to join the carb stub to the manifold and an air ram for the inlet side towards the head to warm the incoming air (the long inlet tract can cause the carb to freeze if the air isn't pre heated).
I fitted it with a bottom feed bowl. A bit tight around the mag pick ups but works fine.
I have done many miles with no carb issues.
Cheers
Andy.
