Wheel hub and brake identification
« on: 19 Jun 2022 at 10:23 »
Hi can any body help with the identification of these two hub and brake units supposedly from the mid 30s. Not sure if they belong to my kit of parts or not. I'll send the rear pictures first

Thanks Chris
Chris

Hi Chris,
This is an "interchangeable" wheel - its mate on the front would be the same except that the brake drum wouldn't have a sprocket on the outside. By undoing the three long nuts and withdrawing the axle, the brake and chain could stay in place. Norton used this setup from the early thirties until the late forties, but I'm not sure that your wheel is Norton, mostly due to the rather flimsy brake torque anchor. Perhaps other makes/models used a similar setup.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you on this.
Not quite the answer I was hoping for especially with the rear hub and brake but it is what it is and I'll just have to keep looking for  1930s hubs and brakes I need.

Tanks again
Chris
