Have you tried the new Drafts feature yet? I just lost a long message today and learned my lesson. It is a good idea to save a draft of any long post you are writing. You can then just keep writing and keep saving a draft, knowing you have a backup if there is a glitch. The draft is automatically deleted when you post the message.

I've just come across this :eBay item number:184610216136

There's just one picture of the bike and then a rather strange document with a weird contact address thing.  It doesn't seem likely to be genuine to me - I know there are often scams with some of the pre war Morris cars (I have a couple) but if it IS a genuine ad from someone on here then I apologise - but I've reported it anyway.  At first glance I thought it was the bike I've just bought but it's not - the reg number is slightly different.  Be interesting to see if anyone recognises it - they don't come up for sale very often do they.

dalgrae

Dvla recognises registration ,on advert but reg number blacked out when you open advert up ,maybe our registration secretary knows more, his other sales are exactly the same format ,but none have bids

Biggles1957

That's interesting - the reg number is clearly visible when I open the picture up TYP 661.  It's especially the second picture that rather alarmed me - it says don't contact via eBay as they won't reply and it has a VERY strange contact email!

Click on where is says other items for sale. He has pages of adverts for cars, boats, motorcycle etc all at silly low prices and they all seem to end at the sametime. I think without doubt the whole thing is a scam!

That bike has been on ebay for about 2 years (on and off). It has supposedly had bids in excess of £30,000 but still gets relisted. To my knowledge, there has been in excess of 12 email addresses to contact. It all seems very suspect. I have already contacted our registrar, as the bike is listed in our machine register, and was, at one time, owned by a club member (and may still be). My advice is to have nothing to do with it - my guess is it is a scam (maybe to generate a database of parties interested in Douglas machines - and most of us know where that can lead!).

  Regards,
                 Eddie.

Yes I felt it was rather suspect when I saw it!

This "character" has been reported numerous times to ebay for fake advertising.

These come up quite regularly, often using hacked accounts.  A lot of people (me included) weigh in with massive bids just to ensure the unwary don't get caught out.  Haven't had to buy anything yet!

dalgrae

Hi I think the ad is back on with bids

Regards. Colin

eddie

It was - the buy it now price was £3,800, but somehow the bidding got to £5,300???? - so I put it on watch, and hey presto, it disappeared again. It seems this guy is still up to his very dubious tricks. Be careful, just replying to his email address could put yours on umpteen databases without your permission!

Further enquiries here in the UK have established who is the legal owner of this machine. He is an LDMCC member who doesn't have a computer, so hasn't seen the listing - but has already been made aware of it by some friends. Since being made aware of the situation, the owner has spent several hours trying to contact ebay to get the listing removed - all to no avail! The Club is now trying to contact ebay to put their weight behind the request. This proves that the listing is a scam - and the same probably applies to his other listings - as always, heed the warning "BUYER BEWARE". Even if they don't react swiftly,Ebay do have safeguards in place, so if a seller won't communicate through ebay - don't get tricked into revealing anything - not even your email address!

Here it is again chaps!

I'm just about to report it...

Red

Yes sadly Dragonfly TYP 661 is again up for sale on eBay. This is without doubt a scam and I have also reported it.

Roy

eddie

Yes, it has been listed a couple of times in the last 2 days - with different sellers and contact details each time!

Eddie.

EW-Ron

That auction number has already been removed.

But there is another Dragonfly - "low price for quick sale".
I'm not sure I'd call £35,100 a low price though !
Folks taking the mickey ?
Same seller has ~ 1500 other auctions running.
Ebay seem unable to halt these scamsters.

The high price is due to good people bidding it up so that the unwary won't get caught out before the listing gets taken down.

I sincerely hope not. The highest bidder at the end of the auction has entered into a legally enforceable contract with the vendor to buy the item.

Leon

eddie

The big problem is the legal owner of the bike is not the 'seller', and has no intention of selling it, so the 'seller' has no title to it, and can't claim the money if he can't supply the goods in exchange. It's just an underhanded scam to get hold of data of interested parties - so the 'good people' should be very careful!!

154398608800 on eBay again.  I've reported it - he's also got a Morris Traveller on there!

Yes.  I've put a high bid on to ward off any innocent party, so feel free to join in. This scammer is quite sneaky - you can't bid on more than one of his items, to prevent us making the scam too obvious!  If 1500 items doesn't ring alarm bells!

Biggles1957

194035391976. Here he goes again!  I've reported it as usual....

Dave

Some screen snips of the listing.

And it's listed again (at 9.45pm) tonight by yet another seller!

Am I being rather dim because I just don't understand what these idiots get out of doing this?  I mean if people bid or buy it now do some of them actually send money to these people?  Surely then eBay will refund won't they?  There's all the aggro of doing that I know but.....

Dave

QuoteI mean if people bid or buy it now do some of them actually send money to these people?

My guess is that the seller tries to circumvent the normal "Bid" and "Buy it Now" processes by asking you to pay via some other method.
Note how he says "Do not bid/buy until you contact us by email"

QuoteSurely then eBay will refund won't they?

I seriously doubt it. The Ebay Terms and Conditions probably says that for any refund policies to apply, the item must be purchased through Ebay and not some external mechanism.
