I am about to refurbish the worn sprocket wheels for the primary chain on my B29 and make them ready to fit modern chain size 415 (1/2 x 3/6"). I have already done this to the sprockets for the secondary chain, size 520 (5/8 x 1/4"), and only met minor problems.

However I am going to face more problems about refurbishing the sprocket wheels for the primary chain, perhaps not when dealing with the sprocket wheel on gear box. My idea is to cut off the worn sprocket rim at the top of the "spokes" using a slim grinding disc and turn the top ends in the lathe. Then turn the new sprocket rim to a press fit and have the parts TIG welded. The new rim fits 1/4" with chain so i can then trim the width to fit 3/16" chain.

About the sprocket wheel on clutch hub, I think that the first step to do is to free the hub from the 12 rivets and how do I best do this job. I guess that holes opposite to the heads are undercut or?

Then I will cut away every single sprocket with the slim cutting disc and turn down the remain of the sprocket wheel to a height of app 1/6" (app 2 mm), make a press fit hole in the new rim, an then there is the problem about how to TIG weld these parts and still keep the inner race of the hub hardened and running round (roller bearing). Can this be done or is there a better and more safe procedure?

I rebuild motorcycles for a hobby - not professionally as I am a pensioner. The Dragonfly has long been a favourite of mine although I have never owned one. Now I am looking for a project bike to fully restore. If you have such a machine, I would be happy to rebuild it for the cost of parts. Alternatively, I would be happy to buy a Dragonfly to rebuild. Over recent years I have rebuilt over 20 machines of various manufacture and have before and after pictures if that would help you to entrust a rebuild to me

I have just spotted you original message concerning a slipping clutch on your Endeavour. I saw your bike sold at auction at the National Motorcycle Museum in Solihull. I never guessed it was destined for Japan! I bought the same model from the Endeavour "guru" Dave Richmond in April this year. I have ridden the bike 1700 glorious miles since I bought it, but I did have to remove the engine and gearbox to replace the clutch onto the crankshaft as it had worked loose. Mine has Ferodo replacement clutch lining which works very well and makes for a very light action clutch. Please contact me if you need any further help or advice as I may be able to ask Dave Richmond direct. It would also be wonderful to compare notes with another owner!

Hi Gents,

I'm just now rebuilding my T6 engine and have a question.

How does this breather valve work? It just has a ball; the small piece of metal is missing. Is this a spring?

I'll be grateful if someone explains it to me.

The photo was borrowed from a forum.

Thanks for the help!
