Douglas t35 MK1 petrol tank
« on: 18 Jun 2020 at 21:52 »
Hi ,
I am from Australia. I have been member for a couple of years now.. I have completed the restoration of a 1926 Douglas EW 350. Great little bike.
I am in the process of restoring a 1948 Douglas T35 MK1. The petrol tank I have is in a very poor condition.
Is there any body that can advise me of an alternative petrol tank, as I have been unable to find a replacement for the one I have.
Regards : Morten

I think its wishful thinking hoping that something else will fit it ?
They will be about, you just have to find one.

Or, I did a TAFE course to get basic metalworking repair skills.
To repair a few guards and tanks - that weren't beyond it.

If they are too far gone, a really skilled man could likely bring it back to life.
Find your local vintage club and see who they use. (car or motorcycle).
Anyone who can revive a Model T will likely know someone...

At a pinch, you can even fibreglass or solder over the bad bits, and slosh a tank sealing kit inside.
It won't look flash, unless you work at it, but it will look the part until you find a good one...

Have we seen your EW ?

Thanks Ron,
The tank already has a new bottom fitted, very poor job. I have fixed it as good as i can on the outside, with epoxy, and have put a KBS tank sealer kit in it. The tank will probably be ok, it does not leak. I am just concerned for the future, and hoping for a replacement.
