1922 4hpcarburettor

hi i need a float and needle for a 1922 4hp douglas i have discovered that this is a barrel carb the throttle cable goes in the side of the carb
the machine has been sitting for 30 years in our garage after my late father never finished the restoration i have asked several motor cycle shops and the response was very negative my idea was to post the carb to a specialist to match a float and needle and post back to me but every body i askes was very negative can any body on here help ?

hi i have had 57 views but no replys does this mean i am pushing string up hill with this bike ?i restore /overhaul/service classic cars i had a garage business for over 30 years and it seems that cars are easier than bikes for spares
can any body offer a solution ?could i get a different manifold and put a more easier carb for spares on it which would make the bike go ?
at this point not to worried about originality

If you were to post a photo of the carb it would help with it's identification, but from your description, it may be a Douglas carb. Douglas carbs had a rotary barrel rather than the normal throttle slide. Spares for Douglas carbs are few and far between, so you may have to resort to a mix and match of float and needle from other makes so that you end up with the correct fuel level. Even then you may need to do some fine tuning to get the engine running sweetly. The correct fuel level is usually set just below the point at which fuel continually leaks from the carb with the engine stationary - the induction then quickly picks up the petrol, making starting easy.
