EW600 exhaust camshaft/timing gear shaft
« on: 22 May 2018 at 23:33 »
hi, I am a new owner (10 months) of a Douglas EW600 1927 side valve. I know very little about them. the bike was purchased in a going condition. it was restored about 12 years ago. however the exhaust cam timing wheel came loose. it was part of the restoration. I cannot remove the exhaust cam/timing wheel shaft from the crankcase. is the shaft secured from inside the crankcase or should it be relatively easy to remove by hand? I have tried a few methods but it wont budge. I managed to remove the cam and wheel by gently working the cam outwards from the timing wheel. any advice would be appreciated. cheers smokey

They are a shrink fit into the cast-in bronze insert of the crankcase. A shoulder stops them from drifting too far inward during installation. Generally they not intended to be removable.
