one way valve 1926 model

have all the parts made, now to assemble the engine

  the one way valve?  front cylinder   what does it do??  the pistons I am using have a much shorter skirt..and oil rings
is this valve a necessary item??
this for a 1926 EW

The one way valve introduces into the engine, in addition to the feed to the crankshaft. The feed is not dependent on the piston uncovering the port, rather the piston ascending the bore creates a vacuum that draws some oil in. As soon as the piston starts to descend, the one way valve shuts so that it does not blow a bunch of air up the pipe and displace oil for the next circuit. It is necessary.

thanks heaps for that information...I think there is a design for one here in the archives somewhere..
  my pistons are about 1/4 inch shorter skirt than the original ones...

  the one way valve,  I have sleeved my cylinders...and no longer have a hole for the one way valve....and I only have spare rear cylinders...no stinkin holes in them...
can anybody give me a drill size for that leeeetle hole in the front cylinder
