Only blue on tank - 1930 T6?
« on: 03 Jul 2013 at 11:20 »
Looking at all the Douglas images on net apparently blue is the only color used by people restoring. Mine looks definetly like it is black (on chrome). Is it original? I have read an ad from 1930 saying the S/T 6 was "Chromium, black and gold tanks". Black and gold in combination or separately?

Best, Henrik

Hi Henrik,

Sorry, can't help with the colour but I wonder if you can use the following technique to clean the rust off your chrome.

Take a piece of aluminium kitchen foil. Dip it into vinegar. Stroke (don't rub hard) it backwards and forwards across a bit of the tank until the rust disappears. Wash the vinegar off with water and dry it. You can then polish with chrome polish.

The action is chemical, not abrasive, so don't rub hard. I've tried this a couple of times with good success. I'm a fan of keeping the original chrome and paint if you can.

Cheers

Leon

Hej Henrik
Your question about T6 tank painting and lining have been current many times during the year,- with
many different answer
About 20 years ago I recived a description from LDMCC about this topic.
Enclosed a copy of answer,- from the LDMCC tecnical advisor,- at that time
If there is problem with reading it,- email me,- and I email the description in a different way.
Good luck and regards from
Edin DK

Hei Edin,

Thank you for the information! The correct colorscheme for me would apparently be Style No 1 with black and gold.

Best wishes for summer  :)

I am in the process of acquiring a 1930 H3  350cc, which has a similar chrome tank with no painted top panel and black side panels, but the line directly around the black panel is whitish. I am wondering if this was gold originally, and the gold may have faded to almost white. So there is at least another 1930 Douglas with a black and chrome tank, so they do exist.
