Douglas SW5 front fork centre spring
« on: 23 Sep 2010 at 21:43 »
Hello Again, Progress today as I got the somewhat rusty centre spring assembly apart; something that had proved most difficult as when I tried threading the end pieces outwards this caused the spring to rotate and close its diameter. Solution- By tapping constantly on the flat end of the spring while applying rotational pressure with a round bar through the clevis hole, it at last started to move. My question is was the spring Black painted or Nickel plated; I see no sign of either remaining.
The centre mechanical portion still has quite good Nickel on it so that is obvious.Did this centre portion act as both a tension adjuster and some sort of damper, the forks are dampened by the regular Andre scissor type damper, so was this also a damper? BARRYM
