Have you tried the new Drafts feature yet? I just lost a long message today and learned my lesson. It is a good idea to save a draft of any long post you are writing. You can then just keep writing and keep saving a draft, knowing you have a backup if there is a glitch. The draft is automatically deleted when you post the message.

Can anyone help with the enquiry I have received below:- AE is I believe a Bristol registration so were these works bikes? Any information I can pass on to the person making the enquiry will be very much appreciated.

Roy

I am researching into these family photographs of my Grandmothers brother
 Tommy ? Lloyd from Pembrokeshire. All I was told that  is he raced this bike in some 1920s TT races.
 The photographs include the one of team with 2 bikes . 1920s Douglas model .

All the competitors in the IoM races are listed online these days.
I haven't quite fully mastered how you search, but Tommy Lloyd doesn't seem to be listed (??)
There are a few Tommy's and a few Lloyd's ...

Some of the listed Junior races are  (assuming a 350cc bike)
https://www.iomttraces.com/racing/results/?event=mnh-event-293
https://www.iomttraces.com/racing/results/?event=mnh-event-288

Even changing the required year of the race seems to elude me at present
I found these accidentally (!!)

Getting some inkling of the exact year of his bike would be helpful.
That siamesed / muffled ? exhaust looks interesting - and unlike anything I have sighted ?
The RA disk brake (?) might peg it at 1923 ??

Cannot say when the picture of Lloyd was taken but can have a bit of a stab at the year that the bike may be from.

The dummy belt rim front brake looks like these from 1920 (27 8 1920 La Sarthe) on Kickhams, Alexander and Isodi's Douglii.

Carburettor setup on Lloyd's bike appears very similar to this;

I assume all the Gallica pictures are all "works" bikes??

(Links to these pictures were previously posted in the Les Bailey thread at

https://www.douglasmotorcycles.net/index.php?msg=26613

)

So it appears to me that Lloyd's bike is very similar, but not identical to the works Douglii used in 1920 at La Sarthe (Le Mans)?

Cheers

All interesting stuff.

Ah, that thing is an inlet manifold heater.  ??
Cold weather fixture only  ?

Thanks for all the comments. Yes the TT web site is not easy to use but I did eventually manage to do a search on the surname Lloyd and from 1907 to now there were only 5 riders with this surname and the ealiest was in the 1950's. See attached screenshot. There is no record of anyone with the surname Lloyd back in the 1920's. Thanks again for all your help.

A comment was made about the somewhat strange and noisy Siamese exhaust arrangement. Found a pic of T Thompson racing a bike with a similar system in the early 20's. The date a bit unclear but said to be the same design as ridden by Bailey at Brooklands in 1920.
