I am about to refurbish the worn sprocket wheels for the primary chain on my B29 and make them ready to fit modern chain size 415 (1/2 x 3/6"). I have already done this to the sprockets for the secondary chain, size 520 (5/8 x 1/4"), and only met minor problems.

However I am going to face more problems about refurbishing the sprocket wheels for the primary chain, perhaps not when dealing with the sprocket wheel on gear box. My idea is to cut off the worn sprocket rim at the top of the "spokes" using a slim grinding disc and turn the top ends in the lathe. Then turn the new sprocket rim to a press fit and have the parts TIG welded. The new rim fits 1/4" with chain so i can then trim the width to fit 3/16" chain.

About the sprocket wheel on clutch hub, I think that the first step to do is to free the hub from the 12 rivets and how do I best do this job. I guess that holes opposite to the heads are undercut or?

Then I will cut away every single sprocket with the slim cutting disc and turn down the remain of the sprocket wheel to a height of app 1/6" (app 2 mm), make a press fit hole in the new rim, an then there is the problem about how to TIG weld these parts and still keep the inner race of the hub hardened and running round (roller bearing). Can this be done or is there a better and more safe procedure?

Hi hoejmark

The attachments have been converted to linked images and inserted in your post. I will do some further testing with the photos as attachments and contact you again.

kind regards, Dave

Hi Dave
Thanks for helping
I had another look into the attachments metods where i thaught that I have tried both method 6a and 6b, but in these attemps the photos first appeared in the the attachment bar and from there I tried both to click AND draw, click OR draw and also install by hitting the blue arrow (and in this case i did not put in figures for heigth and width, as I did not know what to do, but just hit "install")

In every case the photos appeared attached into the text but obviously I do something wrong in the process.

Thanks for all that information, now I understand what happened. The photo guide needs to explain what the blue insert arrow does and how to use it.

The blue arrow is not needed for basic attachments where the photos appear underneath the message. In that case, once the thumbnails appear in the Attachments Bar, you can just save your message. But the blue arrow is needed for inserting a photo amongst text (like the one above). Will send you a quick guide by email and then update the articles in the User Guides.
