Hi all,

I found this Douglas engine in my attic along with a bunch of other parts. Does anybody know what it is? The numbers on the bottom read 847.

Hi Glyn,

If you turn it upside-down and use some imagination, you have the larger part of a Douglas-Vespa scooter engine and transmission, about which I know absolutely nothing! Have a look at http://www.myvespas.com/douglas-92l2.html and others that come up if you Google "douglas scooter".

Enjoy,

Leon

glyn, it looks like you have a mid-late 50s Douglas vespa engine.  the serial is in the part that attaches to the swingarm.  The serial can be deciphered to give you the month and year of production, which will tell you which model it belongs to. happy to help once you find it.
cheers
Marc
