Are you looking for a valuation?
« on: 21 Feb 2010 at 02:12 »
Valuations can be a fairly sensitive topic. New Members need to be aware of a few things when asking how much their Douglas item is worth.

1. Explain why you want the valuation.
Members appreciate knowing why you want the valuation - do you plan to keep it, restore it, or are you planning to buy or sell it? If you do plan to sell, do you have some means in mind e.g. Ebay or via private sale. More than likely a Forum member would be interested to know about a machine coming up for sale.

2. Values vary around the world
Valuations can vary enormously from country to country. A model that is scarce in one country may be relatively plentiful, or less desirable, in another.

3. If you do receive some estimates
It takes time and effort to provide a thoughtful valuation, so please thank any Members who respond. Also, please be aware that these are personal opinions only and may be based on knowledge of the market for Douglas machines in the Member's own country or region.

4. If you get no response
Members may be unable or unwilling to provide a valuation right away and there may be no further replies to your topic. Please don't be offended by this apparent lack of interest. Members are always interested in other people's machines - particularly when details and photos are provided. However, they may just not feel able to provide an accurate valuation of your machine in your locality at the current time.

5. What you need to provide
For Members to provide an estimate of its value, you will need to provide details including the engine and frame numbers, paying particular attention to prefix codes. Many Douglas components are interchangeable across models, and the engine and frame numbers can help identify original machines from hybrids built up from parts. Photographs are a great aid for identifying originality and completeness, and they also are necessary for members to assess the condition for themselves.

You can add or send as many photos as you wish and should include some closeups especially of the engine area. For information on how to send or add photos to your post, please see this topic - How to add Photos and Other Files to your Message .
