Many thanks to Mike for sending in this photo and message about his father Ivor Bailey who worked at the Douglas factory.

This is my dad riding in the Victory Trial, approx in the 50s. His name is Ivor Bailey and he worked at the Douglas factory right up until they made Vespas.

He also rode them in the Exeter Trials and he rode in the 1 hour high speed trial at Silverstone.

This picture I cut out of a motorcycling mag when I was a young lad.

yours Mike Bailey.

Hello Mike,
Thanks for sharing the photo with us. Do you have any other photos of your Dad from that era? I understand he was involved with the development of the Comp model at the end of the 40's, along with the clandestine scheme to prepare three bikes for the 1950 ISDT (while the factory was under the control?? of the official receiver!!!). I have one of those bikes (Ted Breffit's machine) and would dearly love to be able to fill in some of the gaps in it's history.

     Regards,
                  Eddie.
