Found a Douglas engine...
« on: 05 Feb 2015 at 22:17 »
Hi, sadly my grandad passed away and on clearing out his garage we have found and engine, with generator attached. It appears to be a Douglas engine and I remember him having this bike as well. Can't find the bike, although still tiding through his things. We have not tested the engine, but wondered how we can tell which engine it is, it appears to have 2 cylinders and if we should find it a home or sorry to swear just scrap it. At a loss so after some advice and opinions please

Steph

Hi Steph,
I am sure the guys on the forum will be only too pleased to help you identify the engine, it sounds as though it might be a Douglas generator unit, Douglas produced many of these, the greatest majority for use during the second world war. If you could possibly take a photo and post it I am certain we can identify and advise you. If you find any numbers stamped on the engine these would positively identify it.
Please do not scrap it I am sure we can find it a home!
Dave
