Have you tried the new Drafts feature yet? I just lost a long message today and learned my lesson. It is a good idea to save a draft of any long post you are writing. You can then just keep writing and keep saving a draft, knowing you have a backup if there is a glitch. The draft is automatically deleted when you post the message.

you have just supplied one very good reason to leave this forum and never return. I for one would like to think i am dealing with other humans in regard to my interest/hobby and computer generated content would be a retrograde step in my humble opinion.

Hi Folks,
Here's something a bit different - a couple of experimental podcasts made from your posts in the forum using AI.

These are not word-for-word readings of each post and so they don't contain the level of detail posted in a topic. But perhaps they are useful as an overview or introduction to a topic? And we can listen to podcasts while doing something else.

The first is on the subject of tyres. The AI was fed twenty random pages of forum topics about tyres. So in no way is this a comprehensive coverage of the subject, just a quick experiment to see what happened. The resulting podcast is unedited by me and entirely the work of the AI.

The second experiment was to make a podcast from a single topic. In this case, I picked the S.L. Bailey topic because it contains plenty of text and is of medium length. Unfortunately, the podcast AI can't read newspaper clippings yet, but it probably won't be long.

The original Bailey podcast produced by the AI, was over 26 minutes long and contained repeat coverage of the same information. I think this comes about when previous posts are quoted later in the topic. So the AI thinks it is fresh information and repeats it all again.

So with this podcast, I cut out some of the chunks of repeated information. You may hear a little jump in the flow of the conversation where those edits happen. It is still a bit too long and there is plenty of potential for further small edits where the hosts chat on excessively. But for this first experiment, most of the chit-chat was left in place.

A quote from the Bailey podcast:
QuoteAnd speaking of enthusiasts, I have to commend the forum members for that incredible chronology of Bailey's career. It's an invaluable resource. So detailed, full of fascinating insights. It really brings Bailey's story to life.

If you would like to hear an experimental podcast on a particular topic, let us know and we'll give it a go. Any comments or suggestions, positive or negative, are always most welcome.

General Douglas Discussion / Number Plate GF 5656
Last post by saluki42 - 30 Oct 2024 at 10:31
Hi, I've just been going through a random box of bits that were delivered with my Model Z project. To my surprise stuck under the flap of a cardboard box was a front number plate "GF 5656". I bought my Z by the pallet load from a person in Denmark where I believe it had been, laying fully dismantled  for at least 45 years. I was therefore even more surprised to find out, after contacting the UK DVLA to find it was in fact not just from a Douglas but one the was recorded as a still active 1930 Douglas, model not shown.

If the owner wants a souvenir of the origins of their bike, unless it was reissued as an age related plate, please reply and Ill sort it out for you.

DVLA site shows it as taxed till May 2025 so it's on the road. It's a 1933 750 and last V5C was issued in Nov 2011 so I guess it has't been sold . . .

General Douglas Discussion / Douglas 632 UXK
Last post by Red - 28 Oct 2024 at 12:19
The club has received the following email:-
Dear sir,
Back in september somebody was offering a Douglas H32 at autojumble. Unfortunately I was not there and only later found out about it. I tried to locate the owner to no avail. It had licence plates 632UXK. Maybe somebody at the Club knows the owner. If so I would love to ask if is it still for sale.
 Best regards,
 Grzegorz Romanowski

If the bike is still for sale and the owner would like to contact the club secretary we will put you in touch.

Hi Daren,

This post was a private message and ended up in General Discussion by mistake. The additional login requests were caused by it being in the wrong area. It has now been moved, so is no longer available. Our apologies for wasting your time responding to the multiple logins and the confusion that created.

best regards, Dave

I really wanted that 2 3/4 but with the buyers fee and shipping to Western Australia it was getting expensive.
