Mk1 gearbox clearences.
« on: 25 Jun 2012 at 16:02 »
Hi, I guess this one is for Eddie, or anyone who is familiar with the happy running of a mk. g/box. Further to the stripping down of my noisey box, i have found that the bronze sleeve on the mainshaft to imput pinion, has .005" clearence. between bush bore and mainshaft. I think this movement could be responsible for varied pressure at the final drive pinion ?  Also although my actual sleeve is siezed in the input pinion bore, i gather that as it is oil grooved insde and out that the sleeve should be free to rotate ? Hopeing to get one from club spares. But i would like to know what are the correct running clearences to give a good lubrication, but NOT to sieze on a hot day !! Denis.
