mk5 Stand Spring
« on: 07 Jul 2014 at 06:05 »
I recently removed the main stand spring from my MK5 the only way I could see to do this was to remove it with the battery box and even then it was not a nice job, the time has come to refit the spring and I thought I would do the same by attaching it to the stand then to the removed battery box location and pull the battery box over until it located on the bottom slots of the battery box .or is there an easier way please

Tie a loop of wire, like stainless steel safety wire through the lower eye of the springs. Tie the other end around a suitable handle, like a combination wrench. This will give you a decent purchase to pull on and stretch the spring. The wire needs to be of small enough diameter so that you can pass the bolt through. Once the bolt is started, you can snip the wire and pull it out.

Another write-up can be seen here on the old website.
