2 3/4 hp oil glass hazing
« on: 08 Mar 2015 at 19:59 »
hello,

here is a problem that appeared after my first test runs with my new restored 1913 model:
the oil glass was hazing, so that there is no control about oil supply while engine is running.
hazing appears after few minutes running.
according to my reprint manual, the non-return valve needs cleaning.
the valve that was installed had just a tiny, round sheet metal shim, but no spring to load the shim.
also, the layout was not conforming to a sketch that i had found in this forum.

instead of trying to make a suitable spring, i decided to buy a new valve from a douglas specialist.
this valve has a spring loaded ball and does not match the original design.

i have found no improvement after fitting this new valve, hazing still occurs.
question: is this a known problem or can hazing be avoided with a proper valve??

thanks to share your experiences.

best regards.   h.k., germany
