Have you tried the new Drafts feature yet? I just lost a long message today and learned my lesson. It is a good idea to save a draft of any long post you are writing. You can then just keep writing and keep saving a draft, knowing you have a backup if there is a glitch. The draft is automatically deleted when you post the message.

Hello there.!, I'm Raul from Argentina and I'm close to buy a Douglas motorcycle, but I need some help to understand model, where are the engine and frame numbers an any other tips to identify the motorcycle. I would really appreciate any help. I'm attaching a photo.... thanks in advance..

Hello Raul,

It looks to be a Mark 3 Sports model. Frame and engine numbers can be found as per the marked up image below.

It has the early sub-frame mounting (A) indicating a Mark 3 or earlier frame. The clips at (B) are for the panier toolboxes as fitted to the Mark 3 Sports model. The appropriate frame codes and numeric ranges can be found via the link in this post:

https://www.douglasmotorcycles.net/index.php?topic=490.0

For example a Mark 3 Sports should be stamped on the engine and frame from T35/S/4001/S to  T35/S/4001/S6589/S. The engine and frame numbers would have matched upon leaving the factory.

Raul,

Pictures of a Mark 3 Sports restored to original condition (except for finned faux exhaust nuts) can be found in this post:

Mk 3 indeed but is that an induction tube I can see?
Has it been fitted with a manifold to run from 1 carburettor like the dragonfly? I did not think its for an air filter as the bore is small and it looks like a flange with vertical holes to match the cylinder head 'carb' fitting

raul

Doug, thanks a lot for your help, because of you I was able to check frame and motor serial numbers!! Right now I'm listing spare parts such as piston rings, gaskets, seals, carburetors, etc to buy up there in a dealer, if you have any suggestions will be welcome..
Again thks a lot!!!
Best regards!
Raul

raul

Tck, excelent catch!! Is a manifold to feed both cylinders with one non original carburator. It is Mk III the serial numbers confirm that.
Regards

tck

that has got to be a real power sapper. two separate carburettors would be first on my list I actually wince when I see the bend in the pipe just before the cylinder head
