T35 headlug cup and cone problems

Has anyone expirience in repair of upper bearing of T35 headlug.
On my MK5 is a "modified" one amd I´m shure it will not work! (The black one on photo).
The golden one is from my 90+, also in retauration, the middle position is the cup (in usable condition).

Is it possible to make a repair, or what can fit instead of original parts?
The Douglas club can not offer a spare part.

Is the black one modified or possibly a MK1  -  I have seen in the spares cataloge it is different to the later ones (24 balls instead of 22).

Yes Michael, the black one is from a Mk 1. There should be another identical track in the top of the steering head - the part number (2016) is the manufacturer's number (not a Douglas part number) so you may be able to find them amongst dealers old stock.
     The gold one is from the later Mks and Pluses (and should have a grease collar the same as the black one). This may also have a spigot on the top to go with the later type bridge plate (with a larger hole). On reassembly, you may find it is possible to get an extra ball in the track - DON'T do it, the general rule for crowded balls or rollers is 'a full house minus one'.

thanks for explaining the different parts.

When I got the MK5, the black one cone/cup and the cup on the photo was assambled to the bike  -  and it does not work, because the is right for the bike (22 balls) and not the upper one (24 balls). Does the cup of MK1 /3 fit in the steering to get a pair?

Hi Michael,
                The gold adjuster and the bearing cup (lower centre in photo) go together with 22 balls to make the later type cup and cone bearing. The black adjuster has a bearing track pressed on to it (as seen in the photo) - this, along with an identical bearing track (to press into the frame lug) and 24 balls makes up the earlier type bearing. The 2 bearings are interchangeable as complete units but you cannot mix and match their parts.
    The early type bearing tracks (part number 2016) are the same as those used on prewar Douglas machines.

The golden one I need for my 90Plus.
So I need for the MK5 such a (late) cone on top or a early type cup for the steering head lug.

Dick Bradley do not have the cone in the spares.

 I hope someone can offer me one of this parts, because in Germany there is no change to find something in a shop.
Last way is to modify something !?!
