Have you tried the new Drafts feature yet? I just lost a long message today and learned my lesson. It is a good idea to save a draft of any long post you are writing. You can then just keep writing and keep saving a draft, knowing you have a backup if there is a glitch. The draft is automatically deleted when you post the message.

The side wall bores are also 3mm diameter on my tail piece.

I have no knowledge about the specification of the Bantam types.
So I think your drawing measures should be right.

That's a great help Michael.

Just checked the sizes on the drawing i made and it is 145 mm high at the tail and 125 mm long,but the diameter of the pipe is 25 mm or 1 inch, yours is 32 mm or 1 1/4 so I am wondering if yours is off of a 1934 / 1935 model which had the Douglas engine and probably more power than the Villiers engine in mine!
So I think I will keep the sizes as they are as they are in proportion with the smaller diameter pipe.
I have made the holes in the side wall at 3 mm. Is this similar to yours?

I had good luck having the journals on the crankshaft laser welded (cold weld, not heating the metal) and then machined.
The difficult is to find a repairer.
Mine has the parts for years ....

Hi Tony,

I add some photos.
The tin of the the tail is really strong: 2mm
for the clamp (screw) 3mm, with thread in outside! 4,7mm -  (If you want I can find out the thread size)

Fishtail in both directions 150mm
round part 70mm long
tail part  80mm long
dia of inlet 31,5mm

Please let me know, if you need further informations.

That's good to find proof, it does make sense not to blow exhaust gas onto the back wheel!
A photo would be great and if you can take some overall measurements that would be even better as I have scaled the fin from the photo, which is not the most accurate way.

Hi Tony,

several years ago I bought a 1930 Douglas H3 in bits and pieces with an "exploded" engine, several bits missing. So there was also no silencer for the bike (I'm still looking for a good one).
But in that convolut there was also a single fishtail for a Douglas Bantam. It´s a left side tail and there are NO HOLES on the inside of the tail.
If you like a photo, please let me know.
