Anyone tried a non standard wheel/hub in a post war t35-mk5? even with relining and all the tricks and clamping with the brakes on its not exactly a good brake. Also, I am told the plus brake (it you could find one) is mainly a cosmetic improvement ... but I could be wrong

The main problem is the mild steel brake drums - Ferodo on cast iron has a much better coefficient of friction!

Having had a Mark 3 Sports and an 80 Plus in the family I can confirm having a Plus brake doesn't make any difference.  :D

Perhaps there is a cast iron 7" lace-able  drum in the old British auto jumbles? since I have to rebuild a wheel anyway. ....
Thanks Eddie for pointing out the basic problem and conformation by dawn  that all that glitters is not gold (gold paint perhaps!)

I also read that the later competition bikes sometimes had a ring shrunk round the outside of the drum to prevent 'belling' that is a possibility I suppose how effective was that I wonder?

I had the front brake shoes on my standard MK 5 relined by Villiers Services for just over £20; it doesn't half stop well now!
