luggage rack wanted for 80 plus

Thats it really, I need a luggage rack for my single seat 80Plus, so I can get to Austria in May. Alternatively are there any plans to build one? Or even some pictures.

Hi Simon,

I have an early 90+, that was delivered original with a luggage rack.
But the rack was missing. To complete the bike I made a luggage rack by myself (without the down stays, because the bike has the MK4 toolboxes).
Unfortunatly I have only a drawing without measures, but I think I had an original Douglas factory drawing (but can´t find it).
Maybe someone other can help or I could find out on my bike.
If you like a photo, I can do it for you.

           The tubing used for the original Douglas luggage rack was 1/2" dia x 16g. I've never made a rack for a Mark, but have made several for the Dragonfly. I found that a suitable sized 'V' belt pulley made an excellent substitute for a pipe bending former (with hardly any flattening of the tube if it was bent cold).

Hello Simon,

I found an other drawing. It is like the Rack in Douglas Spares Sheets.
The difference to my rack (on the old 90+ photo and my repro) is the loop at the end of the rack.
I do not know the reason.

The racks for the Mk4&5 were different to the ones used on the earlier Mk's. The vertical stay bolted to the pillion footrest mount (on the bottom of the new design toolboxes) - this was not an option on the earlier models as the footrest moved with the swinging arm!

If you are going to reproduce the rack, bear in mind that the original rack was only intended to be a frame to carry the old style canvass pannier bags. To use it as proper rack, it could do with being raised an inch or so, and with another cross tube fitted (that would prevent anything that is being carried from chafing the paintwork on the rear mudguard).

Thanks Eddie and Michael. Yes I will probably raise it up an inch as you suggest, it is always useful to be able to strap something in place without scratching anything.
