Hi folks,

This is a first time post that is hopefully of interest to someone here. I found this photo of my great grandfather Charles Tompkins on his Douglas (labelled 5/5/45). Does anyone know what model the bike is? He lived around Wyndham in Western Australia at the time. Any information gratefully received. Thank you.

Cheers,
Andrew

Too easy Douglas EW 1926 identified by the style of carrier and light weight guards which were used on the first model to make the Doug light for the cheaper rego. Later a more robust carrier was used and colonial deep section guards were avail.

Thanks mate, much appreciated! I found another picture of him too, on what looks like a different bike. Is it another Douglas?

Andrew,

Yes, an earlier Douglas 2-3/4hp model. Difficult to say what year, anything from 1922 to '27. Perhaps someone else can spot a detail to narrow the range further.
