EW350 Ignition timing

Hi all,
Just picked my Mag up having been overhauled and was wondering what your collective opinion is regarding full advance timing.
The book says 50 degrees at full advance. Is this right? seems an awful lot.
Can anyone advise please?

Hi Andy, I have attached a copy from my Pitman`s Book of Douglas. From what I can see it is 40 degrees in advance.

Andy,
         Bear in mind that any figure quoted in handbooks for the timing would be the optimum figure for the fuel available at the time. Modern fuels will require altered timing - so it will probably pay to set the timing about 5 degrees more advanced and then play with the advance/retard lever to find the 'sweet spot', then retime the mag fully advanced at this figure.

Hi Eddie & Roy,
Thanks for your replies. I ended up setting the timing at 45 degrees full advance and seems sweet just below that figure so 40 degrees seems about right. I have copies of the various handbooks and one original and they all say 50 degrees but it just seemed to be too much advance for what it is. A good ride next weekend will prove (or otherwise) The bike will then be ready for Banbury.
