Douglas 2 3/4hp in Western Austrlia
« on: 07 Oct 2014 at 23:59 »
I have recently acquired this Douglas 2 3/4hp bike.   It was ridden to a sheep shearing shed about 40 years ago by a sheep shearer who abandoned it there and it was kept by the owner of the farm since then.   The engine number is 32522 and the frame number is 32746 with gearbox 3957R. Upon joining your club I have been told by Reg Holmes that this is probably a 1917 model.   However it has 1915 stamped or cast into the engine casing underneath the flywheel.   Is this significant ?   Also I told Reg that it has a solitary "X" stamped under the frame where the gearbox mounts, and said that it may by a ladies model.   But is is not an open frame model.   Can anyone suggest what model it may be ?

There is an excellent guide to identifying your Douglas on this very website. Should answer your questions. Hopefully.
