S6 gearbox
« on: 23 Nov 2015 at 08:38 »
Hi all!

I have some questions about Douglas S6 gearbox.
I have troubles with 1st gear : it engages, but if I go forward 5 meters it stops, as if the cycle went back  at a standstill. I already did adjustments  but nothing of what I tried worked. Do I have to take the gearbox apart? Would you do it?
One other question : how much oil do we have to put in the gearbox? My Douglas is an S6 of 1933, and I found no information about it.

Any info on gearbox will be very welcome!

Thank you very much!

Phil

We probably need more information.  Does the bike slip into neutral or does it lock up the drive train.
A consideration on dismantling it would be whether parts are available.
I haven't stripped a Douglas gearbox but from what I have read on this forum, the box has grease, not oil. If you search the forum you will see that some recommend a semi-fluid grease.
