Mastif kick lever spring
« on: 04 Feb 2014 at 01:30 »
As I mentioned earlier, I made up a spiral kick lever return spring for the H32 4 speed gearbox. Where the spring attaches to the gear sector shaft pin and then wraps around the inner 1/2" diameter shaft, it strikes me that it should be rolling over a bushing of about 3/4" instead to reduce the bending stress in that first 1/4 - 1/2 turn. Could it be that such a part is missing or was there normally nothing used in that area?

HI Dewey
You are correct. There should be an aluminium bush on the shaft with a radiul cut out to clear the anchor pin. From memory I think it was more than 3/4" diameter and was quite a tight fit inside the spring. I may be wrong perhaps someone has one dismantled that can check  Chris.

Thanks Chris. Good to hear from you again. My 3/4" figure was just approximate. Now that I know a bushing was intended I can easily make up something, especially now knowing it was of aluminum, to fill the bill.
