Douglas T6

Hello Douglas community

I'm new here and enjoy my last few days a year Douglas T6 1931st
The bike was taken apart, and about 50 years stored in the shed. When checked, I found the missing gear. Internet research brought a lot of uncertainty.
My questions are:
is a 3 or 4 speed gearbox in?
what is the difference between 1931 and T6 T6 (Greyhound) 1932?
what can it be distinguished?
someone sells a suitable gear?

PS
sorry for my english, it's Google's English.

With kind regards from Germany,
Manfred

Hello Manfred,
Both the 3 speed and 4 speed gearboxes were available on the T6. The easiest way to tell which box you have, is to check how the gearchange  linkage connects to the box. The 3 speed box has a lever on the main casing whereas the 4 speed has a rod that moves vertically in the inner cover. If you have a gear missing, it is most likely the small gear on the inner end of the layshaft - they sometimes lose teeth after high mileage. If you are a member of the London Douglas Motorcycle Club, you could try the prewar spares dept - they used to stock that gear.
        Hope this is some help,
                    Regards,
                                  Eddie.

Was the 4 speed special request, or was it from a certain frame number series?

Manfred,

The 4-speed gearbox was an option from (I believe) 1932 onward.

Timeline for the T6:

1930  T6
1931  E31
1932  Ayredale

A 1932 Greyhound is a continuation of the 1931 D31 model, and 1930 S6 model.

The primary visible difference between the S6 and T6 models was the T6 used duplex extension springs on the front forks, and had a rear parcel carrier standard. The S6 had no parcel carrier and the front forks had a single, central compression spring.

Manfred,

Not mechanically, I think. Cosmetically the T6 has "Chromium plated with black and gold lining" per the catalog description. The ones I have seen have the panels in Douglas blue. The E31 sales sheet briefly states "Chromium plated saddle tank..." but one can see from the illustration it has the tartan border to the painted panels. Tartan design was common across nearly all the 1931 models.
