MK rear chain
« on: 21 Mar 2021 at 15:57 »
Some chain that came with my mongrel Douglas looked correct, was not excessively worn and fits on a short run of sprocket front or back. But when wrapped around the rear sprocket for half the circumference it started to rise up above the teeth  Nominally 1/2 pitch  the width? of the standard chain is stated to be .305" ( I am unsure where that measurement is made) The chain that rode up had a pitch of around .485" and an inner link with is about the same at 485".  interestingly I found a length of chain that does seem to fit and it has a pitch of .448" and a inner chain link width is again the same at .448  but I cant see a .305" dimension anywhere...

Tim,
The standard size chain for the Mark series is 1/2"pitch x 5/16" wide. The .305" figure is the thickness of the sprocket for that size of chain.
The chain you have with the .485" pitch is probably some worn 12mm(.472") pitch metric chain.

  Regards,
                Eddie.
