350 Mk4 Tyres
« on: 17 Jun 2020 at 18:36 »
Hopefully this will be less of a can of worms than if you ask the same question on a site for more modern bikes . . .

Anyway, my bike needs new tyres, certainly a back one, and I was wondering what people put on their T35s?  Old, modern?  Original sizes, different?

Currently I'm on 3.25x19 front and rear which, from what I read looks to be original sizes. Nothing these days above a moped would have the same front and rear widths so that's interesting.  I've a ribbed Avon Speedmaster of unknown age on the front and something similar to a block SM on the back of indeterminate make.  Looking around 3.50 rears seem to be more plentiful than 3.25s and vary from a Mitas HO2 for £48 to an Avon SM for £70, an 'old stock' Dunlop Gold Seal for £80 or new for £115!.  Other makes are CST and Servis.  Anyone got recent experience of these?

I went to my local old bike meet today (Hoar Park near Nuneaton) but anyone with tyres the right size had fitted them so long ago they couldn't remember where they came from!!

I prefer 3.25 -19 in front and 3.50-19  for rear wheel on T35.
The type of profile depends on the use of the bike. I prefer an oldfashion looking tyre, perhaps a ribbed one in front?

I put new tyres on my Mark 4 last year.

Front is a 3.25 x 19 and the rear is 3.50 x 19. Both are Avon Speedmaster Mk II.
The front is ribbed and the rear is a block tread pattern.
I bought them mail order from M&P in Swansea IIRC.

Hope this helps,

David

Thank you.  That tallies with my thoughts.  I've a ribbed Avon on the front so will go for the matching old style SM on the rear.
