A new owner - 1947 T35 - Now with pictures!

Hello all,

Im a brand new owner of a 1947 Douglas T35 (engine number T35S1284! I'm still trying to contact previous owners to get as complete a history as I can on this bike).

It will be a great stable mate to to other restorations underway - a 1947 garden gate  ES2 Norton and a 1935 Sunbeam Model 9....and other assorted projects big an small!

The forum has been a great resource, considering I haven't even owned the bike a week yet!

Very nice. Do you have rights to use the number on the plate? (Unlike the UK, here in Australia registration numbers don't stay with a machine through its life, and if they are left unused the various governments sell them off to car owners.)

Leon...in the 60’s and 70’s, reg. number trading in the UK was rampant. Usually car to car or bike to car as long as you had the old buff registration book. Your rego and it’s associated buff book could be sold to specialist reg dealers without giving them such irritating things such as a vehicle or even parts of said vehicle.
Fraud also a big item, as I discovered one day when a detective knocked on my door. Did I own a bike that currently had its reg on a BMW car up North ? I had purchased a basket case some years before ( still in bits) and luckily had officially recorded my ownership. Fraudsters were trawling gov or local council rego records for bikes/ cars not being road taxed for some years hoping the vehicle had been scrapped and would steal these regos....nobody in those days bothered to notify scrapping....took a while, but my rego was eventually returned...System much tighter these days I believe.

The front plate is not real - but looks nice. I've checked and sadly it's not available, along with 47T35, 47350 and loads of others I've tried!

Once I've sorted out a few minor issues (timing, clutch adjustment and the electrics) it'll be put on a club permit so I can terrorise the streets, or like my Norton, break down multiple times....
