Hi Dougie,
If correctly set, the ignition timing on your T35 should be 36 degrees before TDC (fully advanced). Now, beware, the timing on the T35 is fully advanced with the control wire pulled tight (unlike most other British bikes which have slack wire advance). The Douglas engine is happiest when kept buzzing - it is not a slogger - so it is quite usual to run it at almost full advance. There is little to be gained by retarding the ignition and trying to make it pull. Obviously, the changes to the fuel we now use - and the way we ride, has some effect on the optimum ignition setting - but, generally, running close to full advance gives the best response.
                              Regards,
                                          Eddie.

Dougie,
NGK B6HS or B7HS seem to be the preferred plug here in the UK. The original plug for the T35 Mk 1 was softer than that specified for the later models, so I would go for the B7HS.
                              Regards,
                                        Eddie.
