Identifying Douglas motorcycles
« on: 13 Oct 2007 at 02:11 »
Hi Everyone,

Just trying to identify my Douglas bits. I looked in the Identifying Douglas motorcycles forum but Im confused.

My CW Douglas has a frame number thats hard to read. It looks like C10004, does that sound about right for a 1926 model CW? (still looking for a tank).
My EW Frames have MF16870 (1926?) and MF11015 (1926?).
My EW Engine numbers are YE6669 (1929?) and YE15412 (1926?).
My EW gearboxes are RG8381 (1926?) and RGC18774 (1927?).

Can anyone confirm these dates for me.

Cheers, Macka

Hi Macka
The frame number for CW models has the prefix letters CF. If Your frame number has a space between the F and the first digit of the five figure number you quote then your CW is almost certainly a 1926 model. If there is no space then possibly the number 1 is part of the "F" then the remaining four digit number 0001 would not be correct. Possibly the 0 is a 6 which would indicate 1925 or a 9  likely to be 1926.
For EW models dating is not very precise as the frame, engine and gearbox numbers are very mixed throughout the whole production run. This may be due at least in part to the EW being introduced in the same year as CW production and as a result many machines made in 1926 may have sat in showrooms and not been registered until 1927. All you can be sure of is that both of these machines are either 1926 or 1927.  Chris.
