1907-1909 Model A
« on: 24 May 2007 at 12:20 »
340 cc aiv (60 x 60 mm) engine
direct drive, single speed
screw on induction pipe with low-slung carbie (Fairy-type configuration)

first model made by Douglas (under own name)

produced in 1907 and 1908

It seems the 1907 models had battery-ignition and this was updated for the 1908 season to directdrive magneto (introducing the recessed fuel tank at the same time)

first picture from The Motorcycle advertisement (1907), second picture from 1909 catalogue,  probably Douglas were trying to sell leftover stock as Economy model (30 guineas as compared to 36 for model B)

hello all,

here are some pictures of a model A 'in the flesh'. Actually it is the only known surviving Model A and probably therefore the oldest Douglas in the world....! Engine number is 149 and they supposedly started at 100.

John C.'s ca. 1908 Douglas as seen at the 2003 Bristol Calvacade (pictures by Doug K.)
