Forgotten your password?
Click the 'Log in' button in the main menu, then use the 'Forgot your password?' function to create a new one.

The new password will be sent to your email address. If your email address has changed since your last login, that method won't work as the email will go to the old address in your profile.
In this case, use the 'Contact' option in the main menu to send us a message and we can issue a new password.

Have you tried the new Drafts feature yet? I just lost a long message today and learned my lesson. It is a good idea to save a draft of any long post you are writing. You can then just keep writing and keep saving a draft, knowing you have a backup if there is a glitch. The draft is automatically deleted when you post the message.

What's happened to the forum? For the last 2 days, here in the UK, it has taken about 20 seconds to load up or change pages. All other websites seem to be running at their normal speed.

  Regards,
                 Eddie.

Chris

Hi Eddie
I agree and I think you are doing well if it is only taking 20 seconds. I thought I had a problem with my computer.
Chris.

Doug

Experiencing the same here in the USA. Both with Firefox and IE browsers.

graeme

Same here - in fact it won't even load up from my "favourites" bookmarks at all, I got into it via a google search and took ages to load up

Ken Rogers

Rex

I blame Brexit.....

Jonathan Hewitt

Before or after breakfast mine still won't do it !!!

Dave

Thanks to everyone for reporting this issue.

We're having a bit of trouble tracking this problem down as the usual suspects like network congestion and server overload, seem to be OK.

At this stage, it looks like something deeper in the forum software itself may be the cause, yet no changes have been made in that area since early August.

The hosting company in the USA is assisting and we'll keep trying things until the problem is located.

My apologies to all for this slowness.

Dave

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the update - it's most appreciated.

  Regards,
                Eddie.

Roys rider

Hi Dave,

You need a bigger hammer.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks
Peter

I think the right button has been pressed, All seems to be back to normal.
Regards
              Martin

Chris

Indeed! Instantaneous access now. Many thanks Dave.
Chris.

Dave

Thanks for the updates and glad to hear things seem normal again.
Some offending lines of code have been removed and we are looking for any other possible issues.
I'm still experiencing intermittent timeouts where pages don't load successfully. However this may be a local issue with my ISP or the network rather than the site itself.

Advertising has been turned off for a while in case that was contributing to the slowness.
If persistent slow response times return to your location, please post back again.
The site may be a little slower than normal during the next 2-3 hours as a major backup is running.

Dave

Dave

If anyone is still experiencing persistent delays, please let us know.
Response times seem to be quite good and have stabilised over the last couple of days.

To eliminate any remnants of old code that may cause problems in the future, we are planning a complete site rebuild in 2-3 months time.
There will be no visible changes or changed functionality, just a complete replacement of all software on the server.

The site will need to be offline for 1-3 days for the rebuild and we will provide more details via a topic in 'Forum News' closer to the date.
