Dragonfly rattles and camshaft wear
« on: 16 Dec 2019 at 17:31 »
Been trying to track down an annoying engine rattle, established it was not mains, tappets, big or little ends so concluded I needed to check camshafts and followers. I understand Dragonfly camshafts are a weakness but not exactly sure if what I have is evidence of that and would be the source of my rattle and justify the investment of replacement parts. It is difficult to show detail in a photo but the cams are pitted with historic corrosion, the sides of the lobe appear to show areas worn through the hardened layer and the edges on the lobe have a slight burr.  The followers have a slight hollow ring probably through the case hardening, a steel rule across the face touches the edge, centre and opposite edge.
Any opinions and advice would be appreciated.
