Douglas 2 speed gearbox operation
« on: 21 Nov 2015 at 20:43 »
Hello all,  The 2 speed gearbox on my 24SW seems to be out of adjustment.  Neutral is all the way forward in the shift gate.  I have a gear when the lever is pulled back to the 1st catch, it then will not go further.  So I have one speed, do not know if it is low or high.  Where should neutral be in the gate and which way do you go for low and high.  Thanks, Mark

Mark,
There is a long rod that connects the vertical gearchange shaft to the lever on the gearbox. The long rod should be in 2 pieces with a clamping block so that it can be adjusted. Undo the clamping bolt - put the gearchange lever into 1st (forward position) - by hand, do the same with the lever on the top of the gearbox (rotating the back wheel at the same time, to make sure the gear is fully selected) - then tighten the clamping bolt. Both gears should now select correctly, but you may need to make further fine adjustment to ensure you get neutral when the lever is in the middle. Selection of neutral may be a bit hit and miss if any of the pivots are worn.

  Regards,
               Eddie.

Thanks,  So that means neutral should be at the next stop in the gate and hi gear all the way back, correct?  Mark

Yes, Mark,
Neutral is the centre position on the quadrant. the forward position is 1st, and all the way back is top gear.

               Eddie.
