1922 4hp assistance

Hi All, this is my first time on the forum.  I am restoring a 1922 4hp Douglas.  I have the engine dismantled and am wanting to remove the worm screw (drives the oil pump)and main pinion wheel from the crankshaft.  There are a couple of small indentations on the front face of the worm screw to assist in the unscrewing, but I'm not sure which way to unscrew and don't want to start trying until I am certain.  Also any ideas on what to use without damaging the metal indentations.  I have have attached three photos so I am hoping they show up.  If not I will try again to upload them.  Cheers

Yep most of the worms are left hand thread as you look at it turn clockwise to undo.

Hold the punch if you can!

In the absence of the real tool, you can make some wooden jaws to grab the gear - drill a hole the size of the gear in a piece of wood, cut the wood in half, then grip the wood not the gear... you know the sort of thing. Gently warm the gear and worm first, either with a soft flame or dip it in boiling water. Be sure not to twist through the crank pin. A jolt will work best. Don't forget left hand thread!

Hi Leon,
Yes three, although the far one is not complete. I'll keep one as a spare and the old chap who does some engineering work for me is keen to build up his 4hp.  Very early days in the restoration project though.  Cheers Rob
