Let me suggest the following:
1. Wait until wife/partner/housemate is out.
2. Wrap gearbox case in aluminium foil (stops it heating up too quickly, and does something to confine the worst of the fumes).
3. Put in cold oven and heat to, say, 150 C for 30 min - 1 hour
4. Using rags/oven gloves/whatever remove the case from the oven. With bearing pointed downwards, gently tap the flat face of the case on a wooden surface (say lightly bang it down from a height of an inch or two). An old piece of flat timber laid on the concrete, or your wooden bench top is better than the bread board in the kitchen. The jolt should cause the bearing to fall out.
5. Hope you put the extractor fan in the kitchen on first. If not, open all available doors and windows and hope bad smell disappears before the person mentioned in (1) returns.
6. Let the case cool slowly.
Don't hit anything with anything hard, and don't use a torch unless you're both skilful and brave!
