1932 Douglas S6, Help needed

Dear all, I am the proud new owner of a 1932 Douglas S6, I know very little about it and would like to learn how to maintain it, I want to change the gearbox oil and need to know the oil pump is working correctly. The handbook doesn't seem very user friendly. Can any one help me or point me in the direction of a garage where I can take it.

Hi Greg
On the front of the gear box there is a brass level plug.
The book suggests 50 grade oil but I would use semi fluid grease.

As for the engine oil pump working, first check that the indicator rod
As you look at the dynamo on the left hand side on top of the crank case
Is the indicator rod
Make sure the rod moves up and falls under its own weight
When you start the engine the rod will rise if there is oil pressure
Simple but it works.

      In an article in The March/April 2009 edition of The New Conrod magazine entitled Servicing 1930s Sidevalves Part three The 1930 - 1932 heavyweights Dave Richmond recommended SAE 50 oil for the engine.  Chris.
