how difficult is it to set up a chat room

just a thought but being able to have mutiple people on board at the same time may be good could even think about setting up a monthly chat as we are so geographically spread out
if it is difficult probably not worth doing as this site is know probably one of the best on the net

There are several add-on chat modules available for this forum software, but I haven't tried any of them. If there's sufficient interest, we can try one out and see how it goes.

i wonder if we have sparked enough interest to add on a chat module or perhaps we could even arrange a monthly meeting on line i know there will be time difference for members but some topics and explanations could be done in greater detail with no time lost in waiting for replies

I’ve found that having modifications to the standard forum makes maintenance much more difficult. I've gradually been reducing the number of minor modifications to make upgrades and so forth simpler.

So now I’d be reluctant to add on a chat module unless there’s a real demand for it. A monthly meeting wouldn’t require any modifications, just a pre-arranged time for people to be online.
