Could someone please advise me on early Douglas M.Cycles (Veteran) Where should the frame number be.
If the number is on a plate should it be buyer beware.

Some 2¾'s had the frame number on the gearbox mounting lug (can't be seen with the gearbox in place!).

  Regards,

Thank you Gents. I thought it was rather odd, but was just checking.

The bike I am asking about is a 1909 that is up for sale on car and classic. I am worried that with a plated number things are not right. Am I being too cautious. The bike is on car & classic.
Thoughts please

A member of our family once owned a 1910 model, and the only number we could find on that frame was on the outside of the left hand rear wheel lug.
  Hope this helps,
                           Eddie.

Thank you. Maybe someone in the club knows the bike in question.

Perhaps early post was BMW's  had an alloy plate but I have never come across a plated frame number on a British bike until perhaps when the industry died  in the seventies it would be interesting to know if this was others experience
