Hi There

This looks like the 90+ that is on display at Sammy Millers Museum.  If so I am pretty sure this is the one has been modified in the past to have chain driven camshafts, for some reason that is beyond me, maybe it had shed some teeth of a cam wheel and rather than replace them, they opted for a different solution, I don't know. The 4 bolts in the cover maybe for mounting some sort of a chain tensioning device.

May be contact the Museum to find out a bit more of the history.

GMT 408.
The bolts on the timing chest hold oil baffles, they are fairly large castings, Len Boydell has supplied some photo's of a cover he has. If I can attach a couple it clearly shows that they must have been original works efforts, typical Douglas Casting, twice as heavy as required!!
Apologies everybody I seem to have misplaced the pictures but will publish them as soon as they come to light!!

Hi Steve,
The plus that had the modified front case is no longer at Sammy Miller's museum, unless it is hidden away somewhere in the backroom we have lost trace of it. The one that is now on display Sammy acquired from a long standing Club member a few years ago.

Cheers
Dave

Those baffle things look like they were built with a army tank in mind, I bet even in alloy they weigh quite a bit.  I am puzzled as why go to all that trouble when a sheet alloy baffle could be made do a satisfactory job of baffling oil or did they have another purpose, any ideas?

Cheers
