Douglas mk 5 magdynamo
« on: 15 Mar 2009 at 19:49 »
Hi
does anyone have a service manual for the magdynamo mn2l fitted to the Mark  5 or a pdf or know where I could purchase one.
The mag is producing great sparks, but there does not seem to be any output from the dynamo. I have just started to check the external wiring, but I think there is no output. I am in the first stages of exploring the fault.
thanks
doug

Doug,
If your dynamo hasn't been used for some time, there may not be anything wrong with it, other than it has lost it's residual magnetism. To rectify this, remove the 2 wires from the dynamo, then with another length of wire, connect the live side of the battery to the 'F' terminal for about 3 seconds. (There will be a spark and about 3 amps discharge from the battery). This will re-magnetise the field coil to the correct polarity to match the battery. Then reconnect the 2 wires and run the engine. If there is still no charge, you will need to check out the regulator.
                                 Regards,
                                              Eddie.
